salem riding arena

The Salem Riding Arena was created by the Salem Riding Club because the city was in need of an area for riders. The Riding Club consisted of 20 members, one of them being Marvin. They started the project in 1988 and after getting cooperation from the city, scrounging for parts, searching for donations and getting help from the National Guard, the Arena was completed in 1993. Since that point, it has been a great contributor to the community. It hosts annual rodeos, tractor pulling contests, houses horses for traveling riders and is free for all to use. And Marvin has been along for the entire ride. As he spoke about this arena, he related it to being one of his children. He has grown very attached to the arena as he's worked there regularly after he was a large part in helping it to be built. However, riding has gone down and Marvin fears that the city will tear down the arena to make more room for the local compost. He hopes that everyone will learn to slow down and come back with their horses and ride.
